Picture
The Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP) was developed by the Department of Defense to address environmental issues from past Department of Defense activities on Indian lands which include ANSCA-conveyed lands and Native allotments. The below links take you to the long-term planning document, Strategic Project Implementation Plan (called SPIP), for the Native Village of Atka and describes former Department of Defense sites.

Go to this link to see the Strategic Project Implementation Plan: Atkaspip.org  The site includes three links:

1.      Strategic Project Implementation Plan (http://atkaspiporg.ipage.com/downloads/ATKA%20SPIP%202013.pdf) (75 pages)

2.      Images gallery (http://atkaspip.org/site-images/) (16 high resolution aerial images)

3.      References (http://atkaspip.org/references/) with hot links to 20 historical documents dating back to during WWII (about 3,500 pages of historical documentation)
